Beyond its administrative function, Rabat is positioning itself as the cultural capital of the kingdom, driven by massive state investments in museum infrastructure.

The Museum Ecosystem

Led by the National Foundation of Museums (FNM), Rabat has seen a rapid expansion of exhibition spaces. The Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI) remains the anchor, hosting major international retrospectives (Picasso, Goya, Impressionists) that were previously unthinkable in Morocco due to climate control and insurance requirements.

Recent additions include the National Museum of Photography at Fort Rottembourg and the renovation of the Oudayas Museum.
