Morocco is facing structural drought, and the capital region is not exempt. The Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah dam, which supplies the Rabat-Casablanca axis, has seen critical depletion levels.

The Highway of Water

To secure the capital's drinking water, the state initiated an unprecedented emergency project: an interconnection pipeline moving surplus water from the Sebou basin directly to the Bouregreg basin. Completed in late 2023, this engineering feat moves roughly 1 million cubic meters per day, securing Rabat's short-term supply.
